Volunteers are the life blood of HOKAFI. Without each and every volunteer committing their time to care for our shelter residents we could not do what we do on a daily basis, 24/7, 365 days a year for the special dogs and cats at HOKAFI.

Join Our Cat Volunteer Team
Requirements
- All volunteers must have a current tetanus vaccine.
- All cat shelter volunteers must be 13 years of age or older. Volunteers between the ages of 13 and 16 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
- Shelter work is physical – bending and lifting is extensive.
- Must enjoy direct contact with animals and have some experience in handling them.
- Average time needed is 2-4 hours weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or we can work around your schedule.
- Volunteers are needed mornings, evenings, weekdays and weekends.
- Each volunteer must provide their own transportation to the shelter in Dillsburg.
- For their own safety and well-being, volunteers may not work at the shelter if pregnant however, many other volunteer opportunities are available.
Duties include:
- Cage cleaning
- Litter box maintenance
- Feeding
- General shelter cleaning
- Laundry
- Grooming
Duties include:
- Walking and exercising dogs many of whom are young adult, large, energetic and jump up on people or pull hard on leash.
- Basic training cues – sit, stay, come etc.

- Average time needed is 2-4 hours weekly. Bi-weekly, monthly or we can work around your schedule.
- Volunteers are needed mornings, evenings, weekdays and weekends.
- Each volunteer must provide their own transportation to the shelter in Dillsburg.
- For their own safety and well-being, volunteers may not work at the shelter if pregnant, however, many other volunteer opportunities are available.
