Requirements for Adoption
All applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
Applicants who rent their residence must provide proof that the landlord and/or property owner allows pets.
All cats and/or dogs currently residing with the applicant must be spayed or neutered and current on all routine vaccines. Exceptions will be permitted for medical reasons when proof is obtained from applicant’s veterinarian.
Cat Specific Requirements
All cats currently residing with the applicant must have been tested for feline leukemia and the feline immune deficiency virus. A positive result does not necessarily disqualify any potential adopter, as it may be possible for the potential adopter to adopt a cat from the Foundation with one of these conditions.
Applicants for cats who reside with a dog(s) may be required to bring the dog(s) to the Foundation to determine compatibility between the selected cat and dog(s).
Dog Specific Requirements
To protect the health and welfare of small children, dogs will not be adopted to applicants with children living with them under the age of 6 years. Depending on a particular dog’s behavior and/or personality this age requirement may be increased at the discretion of the HOKAFI Dog Adoption Committee.
Applicants for dogs who reside with a dog(s) will be required to bring the dog(s) to the Foundation to determine compatibility between the selected dog and applicant’s dog(s).
For potential purposes of adopting, all members of the household who will be living with the dog or cat must be present during the visit to HOKAFI.
