It is a massive effort to keep the Foundation running every day - caring for hundreds and hundreds of sick,injured, frightened, abandoned or mistreated animals each year. It is a sincere labor of love, manifested over and over in thousands of small acts of kindness each and every day.

There are always supplies needed, there are volunteer opportunities, and other ways to show your support like fund raising, the Guardian Angel Program, becoming a HOKAFI member or coming out to a HOKAFI event!

Money

Money buys several thousand pounds of food a year for HOKAFI residents. Some HOKAFI residents have a special diet so they don't get sick from changing foods.  As a result, we feed only one kind of food to the majority of the animals. We also have many animals that require costly prescription or specialty diets.

With regards to emergency care, one trip to the emergency room can cost $1,000. An orthopedic surgery or heart operation can easily cost $3,000.

Altering and vaccinating every dog and cat that comes through HOKAFI with an average cost is $150 for a healthy animal can get pricey. Many others need procedures such as dental extractions, tumors removed, hernias repaired, antibiotics, etc. The cost for a routine spay/neuter/dental operation and other items which we frequently find could on average be as high as $500.  Therefore your monetary donations are key to keeping HOKAFI operating.
